Laban bi Khyar or Tzatziki Sauce is a wonderful Mediterranean side dish or salad that goes great with sandwiches, rice or can be served during the summer days to cool down. This dish can also be referred to as Tzatziki sauce in Greece if you replace the mint with dill. It can be served with Gyros sandwiches as well. Ingredients 2 cups Mediterranean yogurt 1 cup cube Persian cuccumber 1 to 2 clove garlic minced 1 tsp dried mint (or dill) 1/4 cup water (for consistancy) Directions Mix the above ingredients and keep chilled in the refrigerator for 1 hour before serving. Serve as a side dish or as an appetizer.

Yes you can use regular plain yogurt but you will need about 50% more as you will need to strain it to remove the excess liquid as greek yogurt is much thicker, strain it with a coffee filter or tea cloth in a colander, it will need to strain for approx 2 hours.

yes you can use regular yogurt. If the yogurt is not sour, then add 3 tbs of lemon juice to it :)

thanks a lot dedemed for your wonderful recipes! i recommend your site to my whole family...ive learnt pita bread n hummus from you.. i had a lil question though...im planning to make this yoghurt dip for eid and i cant find any greek youghurt here in mauritius...would normal yoghurt be ok for the dish along with kofta? again Dedemed you rock! and you look Dashing!

i found out, i think only the iraqis call it jajek because in the lebanese restaurent they called it what you call it its so yummy though :) oh and i tried making this at home, and i very stupidly put it in the bullet blender and it became a yummy yogurt drink, but i was so looking foward to eating it with bread
