Shish Tawook (taouk) is a traditional Turkish shish kebab which can also be found in Syrian and Lebanese cuisine. Cubes of chicken are skewered and grilled. Common marinades are based upon yogurt or a tomato puree, though there are many variations. Shish taouk is typically eaten with garlic paste toum.
Recipe
2 boneless chicken breasts
3 cloves minced garlic
1/2 tbs tomato paste
2 tbs ketsup
1/4 cup yogurt
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
olive oil for cooking
Cut chicken into 1/2 inch cubes, add all other ingredients except olive oil. Cover and let marinate in refrigerator for 2-3 hours. Heat pan to med/high heat, add 3 tbs olive oil then add chicken, cook uncovered for 5 minutes on each side or until moisture has evaporated and chicken is lightly browned.

Hello Dede,
First of all, I want to thank you for your clear and easy-to-follow recipes, you're helping me to achieve one of my life goals, which is to be a great cook, I'm an international student in the US, no one is here to cook for me so I'm doing it myself.
I have some questions for the shish tawook recipe, I'd be grateful if you could help;
I'm using butter instead of oil, it takes more time for the chicken to get cooked, and I usually keep the chicken in the fridge for about 4 hours because I prefer tender chicken, the chicken tastes great, but I sometimes feel that it's not well-cooked, sort of like the raw-chicken smell, although I cook it for a long time , is it because I'm using butter instead of oil?? I tried to add more minced garlic, but it's the same smell... ,
Thanks in advance.

Hey Dede
I was searching for a recipe for Shish Tawook and your video is so clear and brilliant for what am looking for! When i was searching other recipies for the dish had Cummin, Tumeric and Chilli to the recipe, is this something that you would advise to add to the dish?or s there a reason for the absense?
Look forward to hearing from you

One of our favorite dishes! If I choose to omit the tomatoes and tomato paste, how would you suggest that I make this dish more tart and lemony? As a baked dish, what temperature oven and for how long? Also, I've noticed you've included citric acid in some of your recipes. Is this in liquid or powder form and where do I buy it? Thanks!
